Indians are great at going places.
Amid the big trucks of India’s roadways, you’ll find scooters and motorcycles and cars and vans and pickups and buses and everything in between, all taking people from one place to another. Some people are in seats, others merely seated, others yet standing. Some are on the roof.
Equally, Indians are great at staying still. When they’re not doing anything, I’ve seen them simply sit and wait:
My own life feels like more of a jumble, never completely static nor appropriately dynamic, but rather an uncomfortable mix. So I wonder whether there isn’t a lesson here, whether it makes sense first to ask — both literally and metaphorically — “is there anywhere I have to go?” If there is, it’s time to get going, no matter how. And if not, it’s time to enjoy wherever I am.
What about you? How do you divide your life between going and staying?
Wow! I love India and love these images. They really capture what it’s like to travel there.
I’m much more of a “stayer” than a “goer” but I am definitely not one to just sit still and pass time.
Cool piece, man! That insane sitting position aside, I do NOT sit still and relax well, but I’m learning to! How they get around really does just blow my mind, and I think you’ve done a great job of capturing that here. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for your kind words!
